Our Services
Since 1990 Beacon Center has been a premier provider of substance use disorder treatment. We are certified by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS) and all services are strictly confidential.
Outpatient Counseling
A thorough evaluation is performed to determine if substance use disorder treatment is recommended. A psychosocial history is completed which examines a patient’s alcohol and other drug use, family and relationships, medical and mental health history, educational and occupational functioning and social and legal status. Random monitored urine toxicology screens and blood alcohol testing may be conducted as well as hair follicle testing.
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Beacon Center incorporates Evidenced Based Programming along with medication management overseen by a Clinic Physician. Beacon Center staff will work to ensure patient safety, appropriate medication use, and maintenance of an appropriate level of care to help manage triggers, cravings and promote recovery.
Patient centered counseling is provided in a judgement-free environment allowing the patient to make behavioral changes without suffering major withdrawal symptoms or further medical consequences.
Medications typically prescribed are Buprenorphine (Suboxone ®) for Opioid Use Disorder, Vivitrol ® (in a one time monthly injection) for Opioid Use Disorder and Naltrexone (Revia®) for Alcohol Use Disorder.
Opioid Treatment Program (OTP)
In addition to our other Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) options, methadone is also available at our Rome, NY location. Patients are evaluated by our Medical and Clinical Staff to determine appropriateness for this program. Patient centered counseling is provided along with medication to assist patients in achieving their goals and improve the quality of their life.

Compass Program
This program is designed for patients that are in need of simultaneous treatment for both substance use and mental health disorders. The Compass Program addresses the obstacles encountered by patients and uses an evidenced based treatment program to educate on how substance use can change emotions, behaviors, thinking and perception, and can trigger, mask, or mimic mental health symptoms.
Intensive Outpatient Program
This program is an alternative for those that require more intensive therapy to achieve abstinence than is found in a traditional outpatient program. In this program the patient is scheduled to attend one individual and group therapy sessions for a minimum of 9 hours per week. At the same time, this program allows the patient to remain at home and with their families and to maintain their school and/or employment.
Nichols House
Located in Herkimer, New York, Nichols House is a NYS OASAS certified community reintegration program. Anyone interested in Nichols House is evaluated and must meet criteria for admission. Typically people enter the program that are homeless or have a living environment not conducive to recovery. They must be in need of outpatient counseling and other support services such as vocational/educational programs, parenting training, community living skills, and personal hygiene/personal care skills. Residents will work to complete recovery goals and establish supports as they prepare to transition to their own homes or apartments in the community.

About Beacon Center
Beacon Center has established itself as a premier provider of outpatient alcoholism and substance-abuse treatment services since 1990 for both chemically dependent persons and the significant others in their lives
Beacon Center is a private substance use disorder treatment program. We offer 8 convenient outpatient locations in Central and Western New York. We also offer an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in Rome, New York and a Community Re integration Program for men in Herkimer, New York.
We provide services to adolescents and adults and incorporate evidenced based programs into our clinical practice. We believe that substance use disorders are highly treatable and that all patients should be treated with dignity and respect with the goal of restoring their lives.
Our Mission
The clinical program is founded upon the belief that substance use disorders are highly treatable, and that those persons suffering from its effects are entitled to the best treatment available at the level of least intrusion in their lives.
This care should reaffirm the individuals self worth and inherent human dignity. Thus, the caregivers, the staff, must be caring, compassionate, and professionally competent, the facility in which the program is operated must be appropriately discreet, attractive, and comfortable, as well as accessible and affordable.
Because substance use disorders affect every aspect of patients’ lives, a treatment program must also address every relevant aspect of patients’ lives, from the physical to the metaphysical, the body to the spirit. For this reason, the formal treatment program includes not only individual, family, and group counseling, but an introduction to the lifelong support a self help program can offer.
Services may also be provided for the significant other of someone with a substance use disorder, these programs are individualized and groups are designed to meet the special needs of our varied clientele.
